<image:title>Welcome - Dialectical Behavior Therapy</image:title>
<image:caption>Dialectical means that life isn’t always black and white. More often, we find wisdom is somewhere in the middle — somewhere in the gray between two extremes. DBT teaches skills to concretely change behaviors and learn to cope with out of control emotions. It also helps us create balance so we can see ourselves not as perfect or as failures; we learn to accept our imperfections and find we are “good enough.”</image:caption>

<image:title>Welcome - Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing</image:title>
<image:caption>EMDR is a type of therapy that processes traumatic memories. When a traumatic event happens to a person, their brains and bodies change physiologically. These changes then cause the person to feel constantly on high alert to avoid reminders of the painful event, and often they re-experience the event as if it just happened. EMDR allows us to heal and put the past where it belongs — in the past.</image:caption>

<image:caption>(*Currently not accepting new clients) I’m the therapist who created East Atlanta Counseling Services. As a DBT and EMDR therapist, my passion is to help people move from shame to self-love. Consistently, I am drawn to work with people who have experienced complex trauma — or the experience of many, often relational heartbreaks that lead to feeling disconnected from oneself. I love to come alongside someone and help them see themselves, and their story, with compassion and understanding. Meeting with clients, I primarily use EMDR and a DBT-informed approach to give my clients concrete tools to regulate their emotions in the present while healing past wounds. I also incorporate other treatment modalities into my therapy, including CBT, Trauma-Informed, Post Induction Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Attachment-Based, Ego-State and Emotionally Focused Therapy theories and techniques. I have previously worked as a DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) Primary Counselor at Skyland Trail, one of the top ten psychiatric residential facilities in the U.S, where I trained with Behavioral Tech to become foundationally trained in DBT. From there, I joined Lullwater Counseling, where I deepened my work as a therapist to treat an issue that almost every person that I loved working with had — trauma, and was trained by the EMDR Institute in EMDR. I created East Atlanta Counseling with the hopes that it would be a place for clinicians and clients alike to feel safe, understood, and treated with dignity. Read more here. Currently, I live in Kirkwood with my husband and two wild, loving sons. I was born and raised in Macon, GA, and I received a bachelor’s degree in English Literature and a Master’s in Social Work from the University of Georgia. When I’m not working, I’m at the YMCA Peloton-ing with Emma Lovewell, eating through Atlanta’s list of Michelin-recommended restaurants, listening to podcasts (ask me for recommendations!), or laughing and getting messy outside with my boys. I feel immense gratitude for the work that I get to do every day. There is quite frankly nothing I’d rather do. Relevant Training I am EMDR Certified and an EMDR Consultant-in-Training by EMDRIA under Amy Robbins. I am currently undergoing training to obtain the Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS) credential, and I am a Certified Clinical Supervisor by the Essential Soul Care Academy by completing 30 hour Clinical Supervision Series Part 1 by DeeAnna Merz Nagel; I am currently in process of completing Clinical Supervision Series Part 2. <image:title>Abbie Becker-McVay, LCSW - Abbie Becker-McVay, LCSW</image:title>
<image:caption>Hello & welcome! I am Abbie Becker-McVay (LCSW), a licensed psychotherapist specializing in DBT, RO-DBT, and EMDR for adolescents, young adults, and adults. I work with clients that are seeking out services for individual, family, and group therapy. When identifying which treatment modality is right for you, we must initiate exploration around your personality. The concept of personality can be better explained by two polarized categories: “undercontrol” and “overcontrol.” If you are struggling with emotional dysregulation, impulsiveness, interpersonal conflict, and lack of control, then DBT will be utilized to help you reach your goals. However, if you find yourself on the opposite end of the spectrum by having an excessive amount of control, which inhibits your ability to express emotions freely, seek connection from others, and be overall open and flexible, then RO-DBT will be revolutionary. So whether you are new to therapy, ready to return, or wavering at the thought, I’m eager to connect – no matter where you are in life. Before we explore the fundamental question of “What brings you to therapy?”, I think it’s only reasonable for you to become acquainted with your potential therapist. I incorporate my values into practice by instilling authenticity, empathy, kindness, resiliency, and vulnerability. Originating in Metro Atlanta and raised on Georgia football, I received a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Georgia, while managing to find my way back to Atlanta for a master’s in clinical social work from Kennesaw State. On any given day, you can find me unapologetically jamming to music, scanning flight deals for my next place of travel, and expressing creativity through unfinished furniture flips, blank canvases, and original jewelry designs. I’m passionate about working with individuals who have challenges with anxiety, depression, mood instability, medical trauma, chronic illness, under-controlled and over-controlled traits, women’s health, perinatal mental health, belongingness, and self-esteem. With hundreds of relationships established across my diverse experiences with a human trafficking non-profit and three residential facilities - including Hillside, a nationally recognized treatment program - I consistently recognize that no one is too broken, hopeless, or unworthy of having a life that is worth living. The unpredictable elements of life can be overwhelming. At times, it feels like the sun may never rise. However, these are also the bittersweet moments that foster personal growth, and it would be my absolute privilege in guiding you to the warm light. If you feel that we would be a good fit, please feel free to contact me at Abbie@eastatlantacounseling.com or 678-607-5624. <image:caption>My name is Kelley, and I’m glad you’re here. Going to therapy is courageous and rewarding. I believe everyone can benefit from therapy, as we all face challenges in this imperfect life. My hope is to create a safe, authentic, and accepting space for you to be fully yourself as you share your story. Specialties: Trauma, anxiety disorders (general, obsessive-compulsive, and panic); faith/spirituality, spiritual trauma, depression, third-culture/missionary dynamics, stress, self-esteem, grief and loss, life-transitions, work-life balance. My vision is to journey with clients as we lean into the truth that our brokenness can lead to resilience and become a masterpiece. I use an integrative approach, drawing from evidence-based theories in sessions tailored to your needs and goals. I prioritize client feedback and self-determination at the forefront of our work together. I most often integrate person-centered theory, mindfulness, motivational interviewing, attachment theory, cognitive behavioral therapy, narrative therapy, mindfulness, and Internal Family Systems in sessions. I am certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and am amazed by its effectiveness in recovery from trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, and panic disorders. Being a witness to healing through EMDR is a great joy of mine. I would be honored to hold space for you as you process trauma through EMDR. I am also trained in Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), the gold standard in therapy for anxiety disorders and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. I have a love for the intersection between trauma and OCD, especially as impacted by religious trauma and moral scrupulosity OCD. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Georgia. I have a Master’s Degree in Social work, clinical concentration, from Samford University. Prior to graduate school, I got my bachelor’s in Human Services, concentration in Case Management, and a certificate in Child Advocacy Studies from Kennesaw State University. I have a variety of internship experiences in family reunification, domestic violence advocacy, family court, and clinical mental health counseling in an employee assistance program. I also have experience providing the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) assessment tool in an outpatient substance use treatment program. Additionally, I spent three years working as a Residence Life Coordinator at Samford University, and love working with college students. In addition to counseling, I serve with a non-profit organization working in Kenya with a mission to provide training, accountability, and resources to help Kenyan nationals realize their God-given visions for equipping and empowering their communities. I am passionate about sustainable community development, and Kenya is my favorite place to travel. I am also a yoga instructor in Atlanta and value the way yoga integrates with mental health. For free time and self-care, I enjoy time in nature, yoga, talks with friends, time with family, and attempting new recipes. My faith is integral to who I am, and I welcome working with people of any faith background. Though healing is challenging, and certainly not linear, I believe it is well worth pursuing. I would consider it an honor to walk with you. If you feel we would be a good fit, please feel free to contact me at: kelley@eastatlantacounseling.com, 404-969-5197, or book services now. <image:caption>I believe that people are always the experts of their own lives, and at the same time, that people can discover within them new strengths and abilities through the therapeutic process. I support people who have experienced traumas to heal. I help people to navigate life transitions. From my years working with children and adolescents and their families, I have a special passion to support caregivers to thrive and put forth their best selves in parenting. I am also passionate about supporting young adults to navigate the transition to adulthood. I work with adults, young adults, and families who are wanting to pick up the pieces and thrive in the aftermath of difficult experiences or wanting to change relationship patterns. I provide family and individual therapy and parent coaching. I am a trauma therapist and use Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy (EMDR), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Radically Open DBT (RO DBT Level 3), and an attachment-based therapy called Theraplay in my work. I strive for cultural humility and to be affirming of people’s varied identities. If I have the honor to work with you or your family, I will invite you to collaborate in our treatment and give me ongoing feedback about ways I can best help you meet your goals. I can promise to be human, to own it when I realize I make a mistake, to give you evidence-based information to help you make informed decisions about your mental well-being, and above all, to support you to find the path and ways of being that work best for you. I am passionate about helping people understand and advocate for themselves within the complex systems of power affecting them. As a therapist, I worked in Arizona for a behavioral health agency serving survivors of interpersonal violence, where I learned Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR). I also worked as a therapist for a group home and as an in-home therapist with children and families. I currently work as a Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) therapist for children and adolescents at Hillside Hospital, a residential treatment program. Before I became a social worker, I volunteered for the Peace Corps and then worked in the US with nonprofits and government agencies serving a refugee resettlement agency, a victim advocacy program for victims of interpersonal violence, and an organization serving immigrants. When I’m not seeing clients, you can find me and my family on a playground, backyard or forest trails; running, cooking while listening to podcasts, and putting away lots of laundry. <image:caption>“To be human is to need others, and this is no flaw or weakness.” – Sue Johnson, The Love Secret ___ Specialties: anxiety disorders (general, obsessive-compulsive, and panic), performance anxiety (athletics, career, etc.), stress, trauma, PTSD, perinatal and postpartum, self-esteem, faith/spirituality, depression, grief and loss, life-transitions, work-life balance. It takes great strength and courage to reach out in our times of need. I consider it a privilege to join you on your journey and believe deeply in the healing that is possible within the therapeutic process. Our innate longing for connection is beautiful. Within relationship we can experience the fullness of this beauty, but often it is relationships that leave us fractured and fragmented. In counseling, I believe, we can put the pieces of us back together to experience personal wholeness once again. When we begin to experience the fullness of harmony within ourselves, we then can encounter the beauty of connection and relationship with others. Deeply valuing the uniqueness of each person, I aim to create a safe, compassionate, and authentic space by integrating the whole person into our work. Primarily working from an Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) model, we will seek to reintegrate each disjointed part of us back into the whole, utilizing our mental, physical, emotional, spiritual, and relational parts. Working with couples, families, and individuals who find themselves stuck in cycles, my hope is to create understanding and build empathy in order to connect more deeply with oneself and, ultimately, others. I am a Licensed Associate Professional Counselor (LAPC) in Georgia. In addition to completing the Externship training within Emotionally Focused Therapy, I have completed the Level 1 training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). Trauma often splinters our body and mind, EMDR is an effective resource of healing that comes alongside us as we work towards wholeness. Throughout my own journey I have found that sorrow and joy often walk together. In our work together, I desire to hold space for the pain and hurt you have experienced, while also making space for the gifts of joy we receive along the way. Within my therapeutic space I seek to create room for the dark and the difficult, as well as recognize the moments we need to take a breath from the heavy, and laugh. I want to follow where you lead. In my free time I love cooking, enjoying the outdoors with my husband, watching the Pittsburgh Steelers, playing soccer, coaching athletes of all ages and stages, and laughing with my friends and family. My faith is meaningful to me, and I welcome working with people of diverse faith backgrounds and beliefs. <image:caption>Much of my practice is devoted to supporting couples and new parents as they navigate the profound transitions of parenthood and partnership. Whether it’s deepening your connection with your partner, finding your footing as a new mom or dad, or coping with infertility and related challenges, I strive to create a safe and supportive space where you feel understood and empowered. My hope is to walk alongside you as you move toward greater clarity, connection, and well-being. In addition to working with couples and parents, I also support individuals navigating challenges such as trauma, anxiety, eating disorders, and life transitions. My goal is to provide a safe and supportive space where clients feel understood as they heal and make meaning of their experiences. I utilize Imago Relationship Therapy, EMDR and IFS in my work with clients to provide compassionate, research-supported support for healing and personal growth. Imago Relationship Therapy focuses on helping partners understand how early life experiences shape the patterns that show up in their relationships. Through structured dialogue and guided communication, couples learn to listen, validate one another’s experiences, and transform conflict into opportunities for deeper connection, empathy, and healing. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), a highly effective approach for processing and healing painful memories. EMDR helps the brain reprocess distressing experiences so they no longer feel as overwhelming or triggering, allowing clients to find relief, resilience, and a renewed sense of balance. Internal Family Systems (IFS) is rooted in a non-pathologizing view of the mind. Instead of labeling thoughts, feelings, or behaviors as “bad” or “disordered,” IFS understands them as natural responses that developed to help you cope and protect yourself. Every part of you—even the ones that feel overwhelming or stuck—has a purpose and carries wisdom. As a clinician, I hold this same perspective: I see each client through a lens of inherent goodness and meet their experiences with curiosity and compassion rather than judgment. This non-pathologizing approach creates space for deep healing, greater self-understanding, and lasting change. When I’m off the clock, you’ll find me juggling life with my two kids and husband, biking like I’m training for a race, testing out new restaurants, or soaking up the outdoors—basically doing my best to balance adventure and survival! If you feel that we would be a good fit, please feel free to contact me at Elizabeth@eastatlantacounseling.com or at 770-845-1855. Are you having trouble coping with stress or past experiences? Or are you a new or soon-to-be mom looking for support? If so, I would love to meet with you and see if we might be a good fit. My goal as a therapist is to create room for reflection, healing, and building coping skills so you can embrace the vibrant life you want. My hopes for you during the counseling process are that you feel heard and seen, begin to see things in a new way, get moving where you feel stuck, and discover strengths you didn’t know you had. I especially love working with adults of all ages and have a heart for supporting women through their journey into motherhood, both pre- and post-partum. I love getting to know people from different cultures, backgrounds, and perspectives than my own and engage in ongoing training to do my very best to serve our diverse community well. I provide individual therapy for adults, as well as skills-based DBT groups. Specialties: Anxiety and depression, perinatal mental health, trauma, faith/integration, stress, life transitions, multicultural counseling, family of origin, and relationship issues. Approach: I use a DBT-informed and person-centered approach, incorporating mindfulness skills to help my clients connect with the present moment and establish a sense of safety during our time together. I also utilize EMDR, CBT, Psychodynamic, Trauma-Informed, Somatic, and creative techniques as needed. Education & Experience: I hold my M.A. in Professional Counseling from Richmont Graduate University and B.A. in Psychology from Mississippi State University. I am intensively trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), with three years of experience at Capstone Center of Counseling providing individual DBT and skills groups. During my internship, I provided counseling in a private practice setting for adults and teens. Then at Positive Growth in Clarkston, GA, I completed training in cross-cultural counseling techniques and had the privilege to support refugee clients as they acclimated to living in the U.S. In my free time, I love dancing, trying every new recipe and restaurant under the sun, learning new things, and hanging out with my husband, young daughter, and our Pit Bull rescue, Scout. My faith is important to me, and I enjoy working with people of any faith background. <image:caption>Do you often feel overwhelmed by your emotions and out of control—or do you struggle to feel your emotions at all and think you have to be in control of everything? I’ve noticed that, no matter our age, we are all struggling with something—and we often feel alone in our struggles. Hi! I’m Katie Herzer and I became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker because I believe you should never have to struggle alone. Working together, we will create an empowering space for you to explore your feelings and experiences from a nonjudgmental lens. We will work to understand the things that may be keeping you stuck in difficult emotions and unhelpful behaviors. I will help you learn skills to effectively navigate life’s inevitable stressors. If you feel like you wear your emotions on your sleeve, or you have been told that you are impulsive, you may find Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) to be helpful. This approach will give you tangible tools to better understand and manage your emotions. DBT is also helpful if you have difficulty tolerating distress or if you experience challenges in your relationships with others. I am always excited to see how these skills give youth and adults greater self-confidence and help them feel more in control of their lives—and I trust they can do the same for you. If you are a person who feels like you have to hide your emotions, or who constantly rehearses what you are going to do or say, then we may use Radically Open Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (RO DBT) in our time together. RO DBT is helpful if you struggle with perfectionism, feel like you are wearing a mask in social situations, or often feel lonely. Learning and using RO DBT skills will help you feel more connected to others, be more flexible, and be able to live in the moment without needing to control the moment. If you have experienced trauma or difficult events in your past that appear to be popping up and impacting your emotions and relationships in the present, I offer Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). This powerful tool can help to reduce or eliminate trauma responses and in turn help you build back confidence in yourself and how you navigate life. I have personally seen the life changing effects this technique can have and I would feel honored to walk alongside you and your healing journey through EMDR. I am also passionate about offering group therapy. Groups can be a great addition to your individual therapy because they allow you to practice the skills you are acquiring in a safe and supportive community where you can learn from others – and we have fun along the way! I received my Bachelor’s in Psychology from Georgia College and State University and my Master’s in Social Work from Kennesaw State University. I was extensively trained in DBT therapy during my 4 years working as an individual therapist, family therapist, and group therapist at Hillside, one of Atlanta’s top DBT facilities. I am also Level 2 trained in RO DBT and trained in Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR). Ages: 18+ for individuals, 14+ for groups If you think we would be a good fit, please reach out to me at Katie@EastAtlantaCounseling.com, 404-969-5378, or book services now. <image:title>Houston Stowell, LCSW, MPA - Houston Stowell, MPA, LCSW, Chi for Two® Embodiment Coach, Therapist she/her</image:title>
<image:caption>I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Chi for Two® Embodiment Coach with a background in political advocacy, addiction research, and clinical work at institutions like Skyland Trail and Hope House, as well as private practice in Midtown, Oakhurst, Smyrna, and Morningside. These experiences, combined with my own recovery journey, have deepened my dedication to working with people impacted by trauma, addiction, and the lasting effects of early relationships. I specialize in supporting clients who: -Struggle with addiction or are exploring their relationship with substances (whether they’re sober-curious, cutting back, or navigating early recovery) -Have been diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder, Narcissistic Personality Disorder, or other Cluster B disorders -Have been encouraged to “try DBT” and want real tools to manage emotions, reduce distress, and build healthier relationships -Feel like traditional talk therapy hasn’t been enough and are curious about somatic approaches to healing -Want to understand how their childhood patterns are showing up in their parenting, partnerships, or sense of self -Long for more regulation, connection, and a sense of embodiment in their day-to-day lives My Approach At the core of my work is Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)—a practical, skills-based model that helps clients hold the “both/and” truths of life. Healing often comes from learning to manage intense emotions while also staying connected to values, relationships, and a sense of meaning. For clients with personality disorder diagnoses (or who have been mislabeled or misunderstood), I offer deep respect, effective tools, and a path forward that moves beyond shame. I also incorporate Chi for Two®, a polyvagal-informed, somatic approach rooted in nervous system regulation and attachment repair. This work gently supports clients in shifting out of survival patterns and into embodied connection—with themselves and others. Many of the behaviors that no longer serve us were once protective responses to unmet needs. You don’t have to be stuck in them forever. Why I Do This Work I’m not just trained in addiction recovery—I live it. I’ve been in long-term recovery myself and come from a family affected by addiction. I know how painful, disorienting, and powerful this process can be. Whether you’re curious about sobriety, freshly out of treatment, or navigating a loved one’s use, I bring both compassion and clarity to help you feel less alone and more empowered. Being in recovery is hard—and I love it. I want to share both the possibility and the tools with you. Credentials & Ongoing Learning I hold a Master of Social Work (MSW), a Master of Public Administration (MPA), and am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). I’ve completed over 3,000 hours of supervised clinical work, passed two licensure exams, and engage in weekly training focused on attachment, trauma, and nervous system healing through a polyvagal lens. Some of the trainings I have completed focus on suicidality, medication assisted treatment, movement therapy, and pathological resistance. I hope to continue my journey by being ISMETA certified and completing my EMDR training in 2026. What It’s Like to Work With Me My style is collaborative, compassionate, and strengths-based. I believe you already carry the wisdom needed to heal—we'll work together to create the safety, structure, and support to make that possible. If you’ve felt misunderstood or unsupported in past therapy settings, know that this is a space for clarity, connection, and real change. I work out of our Midtown location at 814 Juniper Street (6th and Juniper) and virtually. I see clients on Monday afternoons, Wednesday and Thursdays between 9AM and 4PM, and on Friday mornings. If you would like to set up a consultation call to get a feel for my style and ask any questions you may have please email me at hstowell@eastatlantacounseling.com. A little more About Me I live on the Westside of Atlanta with my husband, toddler son, and aussiedoodle. As a family we enjoy cooking together, playing games, and all the “Crayons” books. I love theater, stand-up comedy, and historical dramas. I am a weekly listener to Las Culturistas, Throughline, and This American Life. I wish I hiked more and love the restaurant scene. If you feel we would be a good fit, please feel free to contact me at: Houston@eastatlantacounseling.com, 404-947-5764, or book services now. Houston is located in our Midtown location for in-person as well as virtual sessions.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Welcome! My therapeutic approach is informed by the belief that at our core is the capacity for healing, wholeness, and meaningful connection. Therapy is a powerful way to discover this capacity and it is a privilege to journey with others in this work. Through a compassionate and non-pathologizing approach, my aim is to help clients connect with all parts of themselves—especially to the parts that seem to get in the way of who they want to be or what they desire in life. Drawing from many years of clinical experience as a nurse practitioner, I have a deep appreciation of the embodied nature of our emotions. My experience in nursing/medicine has contributed to a holistic vision of health that includes attention to our physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. I work with adults and adolescents in individual therapy. I have a special interest in working with parents, and, where appropriate, can incorporate family therapy. I also see clients with a variety of concerns such as substance use, depression, anxiety, life transitions, grief and loss, issues around conception, perimenopause and menopause, aging, chronic illness including HIV and AIDS, and trauma. I am LGBTQ+ affirming and strive to create a safe place for people of all racial, cultural, religious, or economic backgrounds. I believe that addressing the ways systems in our world have impacted our physical and mental health is an essential part of our healing and empowerment. Internal Family Systems (IFS) is my primary therapeutic modality. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) from a somatic-attachment perspective is another therapeutic tool and modality I utilize to help clients with trauma processing. Mindfulness and meditation are also incorporated as a way of awakening to what is happening within us as well as a means of grounding ourselves during difficult times. Originally from Tennessee, I lived in North Carolina and New York City before relocating to Decatur with my kids and partner. I have worked internationally in Ghana and Mexico. When I am not with clients, you can find me outdoors (preferably somewhere in the mountains), reading, creating something, or connecting with friends. Training: Master of Clinical Social Work, Boston University Internal Family Systems (IFS), Level 1 Master of Nursing, Duke University B.A. Psychology, University of Tennessee Licensed as a Family Nurse Practitioner in GA Licensed as a Licensed Master Social Worker in GA If you are interested in scheduling an appointment please contact me at elaine@eastatlantacounseling.com or call 404-480-2452. <image:caption>Living fully in the present can be hard when we’re still holding onto pain from our past. Far too often, to cope with our pain, we adapt in ways that helped us survive back then but limit us now. While it can be challenging to understand why we do the things we do and feel the way we feel, I’m here to meet you with compassion and curiosity. Together, we can explore the behaviors and beliefs that are holding you back from experiencing increased joy, purpose, and self-love. My Approach I tailor my approach based on your specific strengths and goals. Backed by research, the modalities I use are designed to empower you to move toward greater self-awareness and self-compassion. Using Internal Family Systems (IFS) level one training, I’ll offer a roadmap for navigating the complexities of your inner world as we understand how each part of you has a story to share and a path to healing. With my training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), I’ll help you reprocess distressing memories and unhelpful beliefs so your brain can naturally form new, healthier connections that support your healing. I also utilize a wide variety of therapeutic approaches, including Attachment-Based, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). With years of experience as a yoga teacher, I also employ somatic interventions to help you attune to and learn from the wisdom of your body. In my work with couples, I help you and your partner identify the patterns that keep you feeling stuck or disconnected. Together, we slow things down to understand what’s really happening beneath the surface, bringing awareness without shame. From there, I guide you in practicing new ways of relating that deepen intimacy and promote meaningful relational healing. Who I Work With As a trauma-informed therapist, I work with adults and couples*. Most of my clients have experienced traumatic events that have impacted their functioning which can often present as emotional overwhelm, anxiety, relational issues, low self-esteem, perfectionism, people-pleasing, shame, grief, burnout, thoughts of self-harm, suicidal ideation, and/or addiction. I also work with individuals who want to better understand their emotional world and feel more confident expressing themselves in relationships. For many, these skills were never taught or modeled, and coping has meant staying busy, focusing on achievement, or fixing problems to avoid feeling overwhelmed. In our work together, we focus on building emotional awareness and capacity so you can respond to your experiences with more flexibility, feel more at ease in your own skin, and stay connected in the relationships that matter most. *Because couples work can be emotionally intensive, I ask that both partners are currently in individual therapy or have substantial prior therapy experience to support the level of self-awareness and regulation needed for the process. My Background I hold a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a certificate in Marriage and Family Therapy from Richmont Graduate University. During my studies, I completed a thesis on Trauma-Sensitive Yoga and Mental Health Counseling which shaped my approach to treatment emphasizing safety, self-awareness, emotional regulation, and trauma processing to foster clients’ wholeness and healing. Before grad school, I received my Bachelor of Arts in Economics and International Affairs from the Georgia Institute of Technology and worked in the nonprofit sector and corporate America. It is truly an honor to engage in this work. You deserve to live a life filled with hope, resilience, and joy. I can't wait to support you every step of the way. If this resonates with you and you’re interested in moving forward, you can book a free phone consultation here. You can also contact me directly at kathryn@eastatlantacounseling.com or 678-243-0769. I am located at our Decatur and North Druid Hills locations for in-person and telehealth sessions. <image:caption>Welcome! I work with men wrestling with shame, relationship struggles, grief, or major life transitions. I also walk alongside those navigating the intersection of sexuality and belonging - whether you’re closeted, out, questioning, or somewhere in between. Another focus of my work is with grown-up “gifted kids”: driven, high-achieving people who often cope with self-doubt through performance or helping others, and find themselves exhausted by burnout and perfectionism. Whatever has brought you here, my goal is simple: to meet you where you are and walk with you toward wholeness. My approach is trauma-informed and person-centered, drawing on attachment theory, psychodynamic therapy, somatic work, and parts work. Simply put, I believe healing begins when we feel safe, seen, and connected - to ourselves and to others. However you’ve navigated the pull between being yourself and being loved, it would be my honor to walk with you toward healing and wholeness. I look forward to connecting with you! About Me: Originally from Athens, GA, I’ve lived throughout North Georgia before recently relocating to New York City. I’ve worked internationally in community empowerment across Brazil, Costa Rica, and Egypt, and during graduate school, I briefly supported mental health initiatives for those impacted by HIV/AIDS in East Africa. In addition to my work in the mental health sector, I’m a certified Group Fitness Instructor (GFI) through the American Council on Exercise (ACE) and a Fitness Coach at Orangetheory Fitness. When I’m not with clients, you can find me connecting with friends and family, running, reading, or spending time outdoors. Fun fact: I’m currently training for the NYC Marathon! <image:caption>My goal as a therapist is to walk alongside clients as they navigate the complexities of life, offering a space where they feel seen, heard, and supported. I believe healing happens in relationship, and I strive to build a therapeutic connection rooted in trust, authenticity, and compassion. Whether you're processing past wounds, managing current stressors, or working toward future goals, my aim is to help you move toward greater clarity, self-understanding, and empowerment. I am especially drawn to working with adolescents and adults dealing with complex trauma, chronic illness/pain, and relational difficulties. I am committed to providing a supportive and nonjudgemental space where you can explore your experiences and work toward healing and rediscovering joy. I am also trained in EMDR from a somatic-attachment focused perspective. I graduated from Auburn University with a degree in Finance, and I am currently earning a master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Richmont Graduate University. In my free time, I enjoy getting lost in a good book, doing Pilates, walking my dog, Lola, and spending quality time with friends and family. <image:caption>Hello and welcome! Whether you’re navigating a challenge, seeking healing, or pursuing growth, I’m here to support you with practical insights, tools and techniques tailored to your specific needs and goals. Who I Work With I provide individual and family therapy for teens, young adults, adults, and couples seeking support in handling life transitions, fostering professional growth, healing from traumatic experiences, managing emotions, transforming behavior patterns, and strengthening interpersonal relationships. I enjoy working with folks from all walks of life with a variety of experiences. Some examples include: -Health or technology professionals experiencing high stress, burnout, or the impact of organizational change on their well-being and relationships. -Couples hoping to reconnect, rebuild trust, and deepen emotional intimacy after feeling stuck or disconnected. -Trauma survivors working to reduce symptoms such as anxiety, hypervigilance, or emotional numbness while building a greater sense of safety and control. -Teens and young adults navigating identity, relationships, or academic and career transitions. -Professionals and leaders seeking balance, authenticity, and healthier ways to manage perfectionism or self-criticism. -Individuals in major life transitions—such as divorce, loss, relocation, or career change—who want to process change and move forward with purpose. My Approach I take a holistic, strengths-focused approach grounded in evidence-based practices. Together, we’ll identify what matters most to you and create a plan designed to help you reach those goals. My work is informed by evidence-based practices including: Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Radically Open Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (RO DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and Family Systems Therapy. Through compassionate listening and curiosity, I’ll create a safe space for self-discovery and meaningful change. Clinical Experience I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in both Georgia and Virginia. I hold a Ph.D. and Masters (MSW) in Clinical Social Work from the University of Georgia, and a B.S. in Sociology from James Madison University. I’m intensively trained in DBT and a former DBT therapist at Hillside Hospital residential program, trained in EFT through ICEEFT’s Externship, and trained in EMDR through the Personal Transformation Institute’s SAFE somatic and attachment approach using principles of nonviolence and mindfulness. Health and Technology Experience My experience in health and technology brings a unique perspective to my practice, enabling me to understand how professional challenges can affect you and your relationships. As a health professional, I served as a behavioral scientist for mental health and public health programs, including senior leadership roles at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. I specialized in scaling evidence-based programs and applied research of interventions, policies, and prevention strategies. I currently work in technology as an entrepreneur with a firm that helps organizations assess, develop, and implement their digital strategies. I support the company operations, provide guidance for our research initiatives, and serve as a mental health subject matter expert. A Bit More about Me Originally from Virginia, I’ve called Georgia home for 25 years. I enjoy hiking with my dog, mountain biking, gardening, and spending time outdoors with family and friends. If you feel that we would be a good fit, please feel free to contact me at chris@eastatlantacounseling.com or 404-482-3409. Chris is located at our Decatur locations for in-person sessions and telehealth. Chris is licensed in GA and VA.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Are you a new parent or preparing to welcome a new child into your life? Are you facing decisions about end-of-life for a loved one or yourself? Are you struggling after loss or change? Are you seeking support to care for yourself as you show up for others as a parent, teacher, healthcare worker, or leader? I believe we are all layered and complex people. I strive to hold a brave space for clients to come as they are, explore thoughts, feelings and experiences and seek greater insight. Through our work together, clients arrive at self-compassion and understanding, identify goals and actions, and feel empowered and prepared to take next steps. Who do I work with? I work with adults 18+, and I am fiercely passionate about working with all people including individuals who identify as LGBTQI+, those from diverse backgrounds, all faiths and spiritual practices and anyone searching for a therapeutic environment where they will be welcome exactly as they are. What informs my practice? I draw on mindfulness, somatic therapy, CBT, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), and trauma informed practice in sessions. In addition, I draw on 20 years of previous work experiences in non-profit administration and leadership, palliative care and grief and loss. I also have advanced training in Perinatal Mental Health and trauma-informed yoga practices. I am deeply rooted in our community and carry a passion for social justice motivated by my own experiences. My time as a teacher and teacher coach helped shape my understanding of the ways our well-being and mental health are influenced by the systems in which we reside. Addressing how such systems impact our lives—whether in the form of gender or racialized oppression, economic or cultural injustice, or discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity—is an essential part of healing and empowerment. I hold a holistic vision of health that includes attention to the many dimensions of wellness including our physical, mental, social, environmental, occupational and spiritual well-being. Education, Licensure, Training BA, Bryn Mawr College MSW, University of Georgia I have completed Advanced training in Advanced Perinatal Mental Health psychotherapy with Postpartum Support International (PSI) and am a trained yoga teacher. I am receiving training in Somatic-Attachment EMDR. Who I Am Originally from Colorado, I have called Atlanta home for 14 years. Before becoming a psychotherapist, I was a teacher and teacher coach, and then a curriculum designer. Now, in addition to providing therapy for clients, I lead participant risk, policy and case management functions for a national non-profit. I am a parent of three children under 10. When I’m not with clients I am usually spending time with my family, reading, gardening, or otherwise moving my body outdoors. If you think we would be a good fit, please reach out to me at KatieB@EastAtlantaCounseling.com, or call or text 404-585-0115. I see clients in our Decatur for in-person therapy as well as telehealth. Katie also offers weekend availability. Supervised by: Catherine Moon, LCSW</image:caption>

<image:caption>Hi, I'm Lariscy! I'm so glad you're here, and I want you to know that taking this step takes real courage. I feel honored to walk alongside kids and families during life's harder seasons, the moments that feel heavy, confusing, or overwhelming. I work from an attachment and person-centered foundation, often using Internal Family Systems (IFS) to help clients explore the different parts of themselves and understand their feelings and reactions. For younger kids and preteens, I bring in play therapy with CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) and DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy), and I use somatic practices including EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) because sometimes our bodies hold what words can't express. I'm especially drawn to supporting clients through trauma, grief, anxiety, self-esteem struggles, neurodivergence, and big life transitions. Play is a child's first language. It's a natural way to explore and express experiences that feel too big for words. I see therapy as a collaborative journey where acceptance and compassion are at the heart of everything we do. I want to create a space that feels warm and welcoming, where you can show up exactly as you are without judgment. Whether you're seeking growth, navigating difficult emotions, or simply need a safe place to be seen and heard, my hope is to support you as healing and connection grow. Before becoming a therapist, I worked in Montessori education and studied child development. It taught me to meet children where they are and honor their curiosity, pace, and individuality. I earned my degree in Human Development and Family Science from the University of Georgia. and am currently pursuing my master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Richmont Graduate University. In my free time, I love going on walks, traveling, trying new restaurants in the Atlanta food scene, going to concerts, and getting lost in a good book, all while having a coffee in hand. It would truly be a privilege to walk alongside you and offer a gentle, steady presence on this journey. Contact her at Lariscy@eastatlantacounseling.com for more information or to schedule with Lariscy. Lariscy sees children ages 4+, adolescents, and adults. Lariscy is located in Decatur for in-person and telehealth sessions. She is supervised by Catherine Moon, LCSW, ACS.</image:caption>

<image:caption>When you’re stuck in a hard place – when you’re feeling isolated, or fearful, or depressed, or unworthy or unloved – you can feel like you’re in a kind of trap. Maybe things have always been this way for you. Or maybe something bad has happened to you, and you can’t see a positive path forward. In either case you might believe what works for other people somehow doesn’t work for you: your pain is unique, and happier days are not possible for you. How We Will Work Together I believe in two things: that each person’s pain truly is unique; but also, that each person’s pain can be successfully addressed. My approach in working with you will be to identify the elements in your past and present that are working against you, and to build powerful new skills for you in dealing with them. In doing this we will consider all aspects of you – your physical health, your mental health, your emotional health, your home life, your work life, your school life, your romantic life, and your family life. We will work to connect the dots that form the unique picture of you. And I will walk with you as we develop and implement a plan together that addresses all of your dots. Depending on your specific needs, I will employ some combination of DBT, RO-DBT, CBT, attachment-based, and narrative techniques and modalities. Who I Treat I work with adolescents 15+ and adults who are experiencing distressing life transitions, existential crises, workplace and career stress, grief and loss, anxiety, depression, difficulties in relationships, self-esteem issues, PTSD, trauma, complex trauma, and suicidal thoughts. My Background I am deeply interested in people’s stories, and I have spent most of my adult life getting people to tell me their stories, and to help make sense of them. I began my career as a journalist, and later founded and ran a media company, where I served as a sounding board and confidante for both my corporate clients and the members of my agency team. I have a bachelor’s degree in Journalism from Northwestern University, and I am currently completing a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Mercer University. I have a wonderful wife, an amazing 11-year-old son, and a 3-year-old cat that is not amazing. I have known the devastating losses and incredible joys that come with decades of lived experience, and I have learned firsthand that so much is in our power to change. I look forward to learning about your life experience, and helping you restore a sense of hope, joy, empowerment, and balance to it.
