Mark Reitz, Master’s of Counseling Intern

he/him/his

When you’re stuck in a hard place – when you’re feeling isolated, or fearful, or depressed, or unworthy or unloved – you can feel like you’re in a kind of trap. Maybe things have always been this way for you. Or maybe something bad has happened to you, and you can’t see a positive path forward. In either case you might believe what works for other people somehow doesn’t work for you: your pain is unique, and happier days are not possible for you.

How We Will Work Together

I believe in two things: that each person’s pain truly is unique; but also, that each person’s pain can be successfully addressed. My approach in working with you will be to identify the elements in your past and present that are working against you, and to build powerful new skills for you in dealing with them. In doing this we will consider all aspects of you – your physical health, your mental health, your emotional health, your home life, your work life, your school life, your romantic life, and your family life. We will work to connect the dots that form the unique picture of you. And I will walk with you as we develop and implement a plan together that addresses all of your dots. Depending on your specific needs, I will employ some combination of DBT, RO-DBT, CBT, attachment-based, and narrative techniques and modalities.

Who I Treat

I work with adolescents 15+ and adults who are experiencing distressing life transitions, existential crises, workplace and career stress, grief and loss, anxiety, depression, difficulties in relationships, self-esteem issues, PTSD, trauma, complex trauma, and suicidal thoughts.

My Background

I am deeply interested in people’s stories, and I have spent most of my adult life getting people to tell me their stories, and to help make sense of them. I began my career as a journalist, and later founded and ran a media company, where I served as a sounding board and confidante for both my corporate clients and the members of my agency team. I have a bachelor’s degree in Journalism from Northwestern University, and I am currently completing a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Mercer University. I have a wonderful wife, an amazing 11-year-old son, and a 3-year-old cat that is not amazing.

I have known the devastating losses and incredible joys that come with decades of lived experience, and I have learned firsthand that so much is in our power to change. I look forward to learning about your life experience, and helping you restore a sense of hope, joy, empowerment, and balance to it.
