Do you often feel overwhelmed by your emotions and out of control—or do you struggle to feel your emotions at all and think you have to be in control of everything? I’ve noticed that, no matter our age, we are all struggling with something—and we often feel alone in our struggles.

Hi! I’m Katie Herzer and I became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker because I believe you should never have to struggle alone. Working together, we will create an empowering space for you to explore your feelings and experiences from a nonjudgmental lens. We will work to understand the things that may be keeping you stuck in difficult emotions and unhelpful behaviors. I will help you learn skills to effectively navigate life’s inevitable stressors.

If you feel like you wear your emotions on your sleeve, or you have been told that you are impulsive, you may find Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) to be helpful. This approach will give you tangible tools to better understRadically Open Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (RO DBT) and and manage your emotions. DBT is also helpful if you have difficulty tolerating distress or if you experience challenges in your relationships with others. I am always excited to see how these skills give youth and adults greater self-confidence and help them feel more in control of their lives—and I trust they can do the same for you.

If you are a person who feels like you have to hide your emotions, or who constantly rehearses what you are going to do or say, then we may use Radically Open Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (RO DBT) in our time together. RO DBT is helpful if you struggle with perfectionism, feel like you are wearing a mask in social situations, or often feel lonely. Learning and using RO DBT skills will help you feel more connected to others, be more flexible, and be able to live in the moment without needing to control the moment.

I am also passionate about offering group therapy. Groups can be a great addition to your individual therapy because they allow you to practice the skills you are acquiring in a safe and supportive community where you can learn from others – and we have fun along the way!

I received my Bachelor’s in Psychology from Georgia College and State University and my Master’s in Social Work from Kennesaw State University. I was extensively trained in DBT therapy during my 4 years working as an individual therapist, family therapist, and group therapist at Hillside, one of Atlanta’s top DBT facilities. I am also Level 2 trained in RO DBT.
